- The Hawkins Family
50th Year Celebration
-
- The Hawkins Family celebrated 50 years
in gospel music ministry with an evening of gospel music on October
25, 2008. The concert was held at the First Pentecostal Church
in Hot Springs.
-
- Special guests appearing on the program
were former members: Rick Goshen, Travis Brown and Dennis Gamble.
Rick, Travis and Dennis sang and shared their thoughts of the
times they traveled with the group. Kristen (daughter of Travis
and Tena Brown) also sang during the evening.
- A special tribute was given to David
Carpenter, former rhythm guitarist with the group. His guitar
was displayed on stage and his song was sung by Dennis, Travis
and Lou.
-
- Special friends, The Jubil-Heirs from
Seagoville, Texas and The Hacketts from Dermott, Arkansas traveled
to Hot Springs to share their music and their hearts during the
evening.
-
- The church was packed with friends that
had come to know The Hawkins Family during their decades of gospel
singing. A plaque commemorating their years of ministry was presented
by Pastor B.F. Glidewell to the family from the church.
-
-
- The Hawkins Family closed out the evening
with an anointed program of songs beginning with "We Came
on Business for the King." This song was written by instrumentalist,
Paul DeWeber in tribute to the decades of music ministry by the
group.
-
- At the close of the evening all the
singers joined the members of The Hawkins Family - Lou Hawkins
Tabor, Morris Tabor, Terry LeMay, Valerie Oliver, Paul DeWeber,
Dan Henderson and Malcolm Harmon - for the last song "What
a Day That Will Be."
-
- Tables were set up in the back of the
auditorium containing photos, some of the first equipment used
by the group and many other items of interest including a couple
of "singing" dresses designed and made for Lou years
ago by Auntie.
-
- Photos from the celebration can be seen
here.

"There's
a message that encourages the discouraged, lifts up the downhearted,
excites the unexcited, and entertains the listener...it's called
Gospel Music! Let us bring glory to God as we sing it
"
